Where to stay near Mont St Michel – La Tour Brette 2-Star Hotel
Visiting Le Mont St Michel was the best experience to remember. Thanks to our excellent hotel who made it all perfect. La Tour Brette, with an ideal location not too far from different touristic places in Northern France. Among them are Saint-Malo, Granville, Cancale and many more.
Today, we will tackle one of the essential parts when visiting the Normandy and its environs. It’s where to stay near Mont St Michel, there are varieties of a luxurious and cozy hotel around the perimeter.
If you are searching for something that is simple yet very comfortable to stay then La Tour Brette is a classic choice for you.
It was my Hubby who chose this hotel for us and admittedly impressed. Not just because of its price but knowing that it is a family business (run by a family) which makes it charming and special.
La Tour Brette located in the center of the nearest town to visit Le Mont St. Michel which is Pontorson. It is only 9 km away, and Saint-Malo is a 40-minute drive from the hotel.
The Hotel offers a bar, and very proud of their family restaurant. They also offer bicycle rental for their guest who likes to discover the city of Pontorson and its beauty.
Hotel’s restaurant serves traditional & local cuisine including seafood. Features Wi-Fi access in all rooms and a flat-screen TV, a wardrobe, desk, and telephone with all the necessary toiletries.
The Hotel also offers free public parking at a location nearby, and another surprising information; Pets are allowed on request (No extra charges)
Finding the hotel was super smooth as I’ve mentioned in my last blog post. There was a parking area just 200-300 meters away from the La Tour Brette. Which was a bit of a puzzle to find since the road sign was One Way, but anyhow we can get access to into it freely.
Arriving at the hotel’s reception we ringed the doorbell, and finally, someone came to welcome us. It is understandable that there might not be a person 24/7 in the reception since the owner also manages their restaurant located in the rez-de-chaussée of the building.
The reception was simply filled with brochures, booklets and other important magazines containing information about the city and the beautiful places to visit in Normandy.
Hotel staff welcomed us very politely and gave us all the information we needed to know. Handed us our room key and we went to the room to leave our stuff.
Hotel’s Bar & Restaurant
Planning for our day, we settled for lunch at the hotel’s restaurant before the famous visit to the Abbaye. The bar & restaurant looks pretty cool with its French-style allure.
It was passed 1 o’clock when we arrived at the hotel. The restaurant was calm not too many people since it’s recommended to visit Le Mont St Michel early in the morning. We clearly ignored it cause we were on the mode Zen (means we do what we want) no obligation at all.
One of the best parts was when we were about to order for our lunch. I’ve found a page where indicated “Menu du jour” and it was definitely interesting. For an entrée (apéritif), plat (main dish), and dessert we only pay less than 15 euros per head.
Check out the food that we ate for lunch on my earlier post: Our Trip to Mont Saint Michel – 1 Day Travel Guide
I also admired how the hotel staffs were very friendly and helpful for our stay. Through recommending our food to choose up to assisting us where to park our car when going to Mont Saint Michel.
I’m very glad that we followed their conseil (advice). We have saved, and at the same time, we bought some artisanal ‘sel de guerande’ products from the boutique that they have recommended.
Preparing ourselves, we went back to the room to get my backpack (camera and other stuff) I took a quick photo of our Double Room. We also took that comes with free breakfast.
Our room was 15 m² with a private bathroom containing Hairdryer, Shower, Towels/Sheets, and Free toiletries. We also have Flat-screen TV with Free WiFi, Telephone, Desk, Closet, and a heating system.
My favorite part of this hotel was the art painting on the wall. It clearly gives you that impression of a home. It was spotless and clean from the room and the private bathroom.
The price per room is from 56 euros to 70 euros depends if you’ll choose with breakfast included or not. Also included in the price of the room is 10 % VAT, € 0.55 City tax per person per night.
View from the Hotel
Above is a 360 degrees view of the outdoor part of the hotel. There’s a rond point (a roundabout) with a fountain in the middle. It was unquestionably a nice view from our room.
Hotel tip: Get the Room no. 1 on the first floor to get a wonderful view of the fountain and the park with a lake (Le Couesnon River) located on the other side of the road.
Other approximate tourist sites: Château des Ormes Golf Course which is 16.6 km away from the La Tour Brette and Scriptorial d’Avranches, musee des manuscrits du Mont Saint-Michel (18.8 km). Situated 590 meters to public transportation (Pontorson-Mont-Saint-Michel Train Station)
Nearest Airports are: Dinard Bretagne Airport (41.9 km), Rennes Airport (56.2 km), and Jersey Airport (88.5 km). La Tour Brette offers 3 room types with 8 total rooms: Double, Twin, and Triple Room (ideal for family)
Even though our stay wasn’t that long, I find La Tour Brette as an ideal place where to stay near Mont St Michel. The Location was surely an ideal if you are going to visit the Abbey.
I’d like to thank as well the hotel staffs who were very kind and friendly with us for giving a piece of useful advice about the parking area in Calvados Mont St Michel.
Useful tip: Instead of parking your car at the official parking area of Mont St Michel, you can park at Calvados Mont St Michel for free. However, you have to buy something in their shop to at least thank them for the free parking.
